So, what is HypnoBirthing? Norwich Official HypnoBirthing Practitioner Jackie Heffer-Cooke has all the answers. Jackie is one of the region’s most experienced HypnoBirthing practitioners, and she trained with the official HypnoBirthing Institute. She has helped hundreds of couples to a better birthing experience, and in this informative blog post she tells you all about HypnoBirthing and what it could do for you. A must read for anyone considering, or about to start, a family.
HypnoBirthing is all about Endorphin flow. Endorphins are the body’s natural ‘tranquilizer’ and they flow when the body is in a state of calm. HypnoBirthing is all about keeping the body in a state of calm and control during birthing so that the Endorphins can help the body give birth naturally by tapping into this natural painkiller.
How do I keep myself in a state of calm and control during birthing?
The HypnoBirthing course I teach from my Norwich base, The Orange Grove Clinic, shows you how to use all kinds of self-hypnosis, deep relaxation and specific breathing techniques to help keep your body, and your mind, free from any unnecessary stress and tension. It also explains in detail exactly what your body is going through in labour, so that nothing comes as a ‘shock’ therefore ensuring that birthing mum, and dad, remain able to stay in control and free from fear and anxiety.
When birthing mums are fearful during birth the stress response system kicks in, and this releases Catecholamines, the ‘fight or flight’ hormone, which shuts off the Endorphin supply. This starts a chain of events in our body which, amongst other things, leads to our heart-rate quickening, blood pressure rising, blood being pumped to skeletal muscles and away from those Uterine birthing muscles which now struggle and tire more easily.
And, in addition to all of this HypnoBirthing really encourages you to enjoy your pregnancy and welcome the amazing experience that is child-birth!
