Nutritional Advice to Support Breastfeeding

The quality of your breast milk really does depend on your health and the food you eat on a daily basis.  Some women find it more difficult to breast feed than others and it can be a period that leaves you feeling tired and stressed out.  Dietary support and advice can be beneficial at this time, to ensure you are giving your body all it needs to help the production of breast milk and all the nutrients you and your baby need for optimum health, development and your own post-natal recovery.

Babies with Allergies

Our nutritional therapist sees many babies and young children who are suffering with allergies.  Many experience digestive discomfort such as constipation, colic, diarrhoea, skin rashes or eczema, or you may find that your child is hyperactive and you suspect a link to food.  Catherine can work with you to help determine what your baby may be reacting to, give you advice on alternatives you can use, including milk formulas, and work with you to address the underlying cause of the problem, supporting immune balance and digestive health.

Supplements for babies

Did you know that the Department of Health now advise all breastfeeding women and children under 5 to supplement Vitamin D?   Many parents are not aware of this recommendation and it’s important to ensure you and your baby receive a good quality Vitamin D supplement, such as the range we stock at the clinic, and in our online baby centre shop.

Nutrition for babies allergies The OGCOur nutritional therapist can work with you to ensure you and your baby are getting all the nutrients you need for optimum health, including advise on eating during breast feed, which supplements you need and how to go about weaning.   For further advice on weaning and fussy eaters, please click here.

What happens at an appointment?

At your first appointment Catherine will discuss with you potential underlying causes of your child’s symptoms, and work with you to create a nutritional programme to suit your child’s specific health needs and dietary preferences.  Catherine runs her clinics as nutrition coaching packages, to enable her to provide the most bespoke and supportive help for you.  Please find out more here.

Children’s Appointments:  If you are looking for advice for your baby or child, Catherine advises you to bring your baby or child with you, so that she can make a visual assessment of any symptoms.  However if they are under the age of 7 it is advisable to bring someone with you who can look after your child while Catherine discusses their case and recommendations with you.
