The importance of your core muscles

Think of your core muscles as the sturdy central link in a chain connecting your upper and lower body. Whether you’re hitting a tennis ball or mopping the floor (this task seems more likely!) the necessary motions either originate in your core, or move through it. A Strong core also enhances balance and stability. Thus, it can help prevent falls and injuries during sports or other activities. In fact, a strong, flexible core underpins almost everything you do.

Many of us don’t realise how often we use our core muscles in day to day life. Simple tasks such as bending over to pick something up, or moving from sitting to standing, become easier and safer with a strong and stable core and therefore put less strain on your body. Without core sone on one consultation yoga trength, you will find it extremely challenging to get through a day.

Lower back pain is a very common complaint and can be debilitating.  Your abdominal muscles play a crucial role in supporting your lower back area. If these muscles are strong then the risk of straining your back decreases. Core strengthening exercises are commonly recommended as a mode of therapy to help back pain sufferers find relief.

‘Sit up straight dear’

How many times a day do you need to remind yourself to stand up straight? We are all guilty of slumping forwards and rounding our back. By strengthening our core muscles, standing up straight comes more naturally, which we could all use a little help with! Even sitting at a desk for hours engages your core and can make you stiff and sore if your core is not strong enough to hold a good posture. Good posture lessens wear and tear on the spine and allows you to breathe deeply.

Not only are all these reasons enough to give your core a bit of attention, it also helps flatten those abs, and who doesn’t want that!

Kimberley Dawn CarpenterYoga is proven to improve core strength because the postures target those muscle groups. I am sure you have all heard of the yoga poses ‘plank’ and ‘bridge’, but often without guidance and full understanding of the poses we are not doing these to our best ability. This is where a bit of expert advice really pays off.
